All Are Welcome! No experience necessary! First Timers Welcome!

Beginners Session starts at 6:30pm. All dances will be taught and walked through. Andy Shore has over 25 years experience leading social dance in the LGBTQ* community.

What is gender role free contradance? We take traditional contra dancing and give it a twist. Instead of assigning traditional gender roles for “Gentlemen” and “Ladies”, we rename them “Armbands” (or “Bands”) and “Bare Arms” (or “Bares”). Anyone can dance either role, and all people can dance together. This allows anyone to lead or follow and there is no reference to gender terminology in the calling.

New to contra? Dance with anyone you wish in either role! We usually change partners for each dance throughout the evening. If you are already a contra dancer, try dancing the “other part” to improve your dancing skills and make yourself a better partner no matter which role you dance.
